Host Your Own Poverty Simulation
Thank you for your interest in the Manatee Community Action Agency, Inc. Poverty Simulation.
Hosting a Poverty Simulation is an excellent opportunity for your organization to help educate your community about the problems people in poverty face every day. This half-day simulation is great for social service providers, educators, religious leaders, civic groups, elected officials, and employers, just to name a few. Participants will play the role of simulated family members and spend a “month” in poverty. Afterwards, participants will take part in a facilitated discussion on how it felt to spend a “month” struggling to meet basic needs and learn how they can become more involved in helping solve this problem in their community.
In order to conduct a Poverty Simulation, your organization will need to provide:
- Approximately 3 hours
- 15-20 community volunteers (preferably people who have lived in poverty)
- At least 3,000 square feet of space
- 44-80 participants
- 12 tables
- 175 chairs
